My work is not about capturing an image but about capturing the essence of the natural and constructed world in its most fundamental forms. Sometimes I work from my the memory of a place or object, instilling my feelings and experiences into my paintings. Other works can be inspired simply by color, shape or process.
The paintings often pulsate with a combination of primary and mixed color of bold line and shape on canvas, paper or joined boards. The result is an ordered or structured composition of clear color and subtle textures, orthogonal forms stripped of their essence.
Within the work, elements often emerge with their own identity through the intention and coincidence of the painting process. This process results in freedom to take advantage of serendipity and the surprises it can bring. My love for structure, form and color comes from working as an architect for over 30 years.
